New Report shows Oregon schools falling behind: Over the course of the last two decades investment in Oregon’s public schools has declined to a point where independent rankings place Oregon schools near the bottom in the nation for school funding. Measure 97: Portland Council PTA supports Measure 97. Measure 97 increases the corporate minimum tax for the largest corporations doing business in Oregon — C Corporations with more than $25 million in Oregon sales. The revenue raised by this new tax structure will bring much needed funding to education in Oregon, as well as provide resources to healthcare and senior services in our state. Children's Book Harvest: It’s nearly time to launch the 4th Annual Children’s Book Harvest. Last year the Children's Book Bank collected books from schools and businesses around Portland in an annual book drive and were able to give 35,000 books to nearly 4,800 children in Portland Public Schools! This year the Children’s Book Harvest will run from 10/3 through 11/10.Have you enrolled your PTA in the 2016 Children's Book Harvest yet?Find more information about the program and how to enroll here. There is another plus- If a PTA successfully recruits a school bus driver and the driver completes the training course and 90 working days, then First Student will write a check for $500 to your school. Portland Council operates the PTA Clothing Center to assist students at Portland Public Schools with clothing needs. Over 2000 students were served last school year. All work is performed by volunteers and with generous donor assistance.
